Express Oil Change stands on a firm foundation in a growing industry with a proven formula for success. To share in our success, we seek associations with individuals who possess the drive to succeed by delivering outstanding quality and service, proven business acumen and the willingness and ability to invest. In the late 1940s, Jim Lunceford, founder of Express Oil Change, saw a vast future in the automobile service industry. From a service station manager to the owner of an entire city block of comprehensive service facilities, he sought better ways to help automobile owners care for their vehicles. By the late 1970's, Lunceford Identified an opportunity created by the mass conversion of full-service gas stations to self-service facilities. About the same time, he heard of a new West Coast business that offered quick oil changes to busy motorists, an idea he saw as the most innovative step the automotive service industry had ever taken. He decided to bring the concept to Alabama and perfect it, then grow the concept through Express Oil Change franchising. Lunceford opened the first Express Oil Change center in 1979. Within five years he was operating four company centers when the first Express Oil Change franchise center opened. Less than two decades later, the company dominated Alabama with more than fifty centers.
By 1996 Express Oil Change franchise partners Joe Watson and Ricky Brooks had developed fourteen Express Oil Change franchise centers. As the chain's largest franchisees, their operational efficiency , profitability and sales growth were used as a benchmark for franchised and corporate stores. Watson and Brooks saw a tremendous future for the chain. In March 1996, they formed a new company which acquired the franchise corporation from Lunceford. They then launched an aggressive franchise expansion program in Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
In 1998, Brooks and Watson orchestrated the purchase of the Tune-up Clinics chain, a 28 store group based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Upon completion of the purchase the 25 stores in Atlanta were rebranded Express Oil Change and the lofty growth plans were underway. In addition to the Tune-up clinics, since Brooks and Watson acquired the franchise, 38 new stores have opened. In just four years, Brooks and Watson have taken Express Oil Change from a 57 store chain in Alabama to a 123 store chain across the Southeast. With a solid foundation and experienced leadership, Express Oil Change is on the way to accomplishing its mission within a growing industry and the Express Oil Change franchise opportunity offers great promise.
